Dr. Leonard Mayer is the chief scientist of the Meningitis Laboratory, which is under the Meningitis and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC is an organization under the U.S. government whose mission is to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability. Dr. Mayer received his PhD degree in microbiology from the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr Mayer has been researching Neisseria in various institutes including the University of Utah, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and the University of Montana.
